Dragons: The Legends

· Ross

Us

Few mythical creatures have captured the human imagination quite like the dragon.

From enormous fire-breathing beasts guarding mountains of gold to elegant, serpentine creatures associated with wisdom and good fortune, dragons appear in stories from cultures across the world. Their forms may differ, but they almost always represent something larger than life: power, mystery, danger, and the unknown.

In European folklore, dragons were often fearsome opponents for legendary heroes. Armoured with scales, armed with claws and sometimes capable of breathing fire, they became the ultimate test of courage. A knight defeating a dragon wasn’t simply winning a battle — they were overcoming chaos itself.

Across many Asian traditions, dragons took on a very different role. Rather than villains, they were often powerful and respected beings connected with water, weather, prosperity, and imperial authority.

Perhaps that variety explains why dragons remain so popular today. They can be monsters, protectors, ancient gods, loyal companions, or something entirely new.

Thousands of years after the earliest dragon legends were told, we’re still writing stories about them.

And somehow, they still haven’t lost their magic.... 🐲
